Sharon Jovicic’s dream home, situated directly across from the beach, is the result of years of planning and manifestation. According to Sharon, “We have lived in the area since 2010, and have always walked along this street [where our home now stands], saying this is the perfect spot.”

In 2016, the little beach shack on the site went up for auction, and Sharon was able to purchase it, starting a journey that lasted several years from conception to finalization, with her moving into the new home at the end of 2023.

A Modern Mediterranean Vibe

Sharon had a clear vision for the design, driven by the incredible location, but she and her designers, More Atelier, wanted to move away from the predictable coastal aesthetic in favor of a more modern Mediterranean vibe, taking inspiration from the family’s holidays to Italy and Greece.

The main goal was to emulate the feeling of warmth and the use of materials such as stone, timber, and wrought iron, which “have and will stand the test of time, and will wear well with age, just as they have in European homes for many, many years,” Sharon says.

A Layered and Textural Palette

The house features a deliberately layered and textural palette, with blonde timber parquetry floors, Venetian plaster walls in a warm cream shade, and an incredible marble island bench crafted from Calacatta Viola in the kitchen.

A wrought-iron staircase connects each of the levels, with the main gathering spaces upstairs, connecting to a deck that makes the most of the incredible ocean views, which Sharon describes as “very special in the morning with the sun coming up, and also hearing the surf at night when you are falling asleep.”

Sharon’s artist daughter, Madeline, was a source of encouragement for some of the more unexpected moments in the interiors, including the colorful tiles in the en suite bathroom, which features green and terracotta tiles that “really popped, and it was something I had not even thought of combining,” Sharon says.

The home also features a playful pink marble bar, named Bar Rosa, which is a homage to a similar version More Atelier had created in Newcastle’s Asian fusion restaurant Light Years, and is “definitely a favourite hangout for everyone,” Sharon adds.
